The Top Five Angelina Jolie Films Lighting Up Satellite TV in Alabama by Thomas Masterson
You can't pick up an Alabama newspaper or log onto the internet these days without seeing some notice about Angelina Jolie. She is simply the most famous actress of our time, a celebrity who draws crowds and attention the way only an ultra-superstar can do. Of course, it doesn't hurt that her boyfriend is the most famous male actor. That's an ideal couple, no? Know for her stunning beauty and bold demeanor, Jolie has recently been showing off her formidable acting skills, with Oscar nominations and a win already under her belt. Her career is barely past its first phase, but here are Jolie's five best films to date, now playing on Alabama satellite TV networks.
5. The Good Shepherd. It seems like there are too few of these movies in Jolie's career. Big producers (Jane Rosenthal, Francis Ford Coppola) big actors (Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin) and a director by the name of Robert De Niro. Jolie has wasted a lot of time in her acting career, playing action heroes (action figures, even) and some empty sex symbols, but she delivers a fine performance in good company here.
4. Mr. and Mrs. Smith. If the kids were wondering how Mommy met Daddy, they need only go through Jolie's best films and watch Brad Pitt light up the screen with her in this film. A couple of assassins who end up trading kisses in between bullets are the main characters of this fun romp, which is part comedy and part action flick. Given the lightness of the plot and the worldwide marketability of Jolie and Pitt, it's no surprise that this movie is her highest grosser (animated films aside). Watch this film on HBO in HD.
3. A Mighty Heart. Few stories are as tragic or as gripping in the post-9/11 world than the story of Daniel Pearl, Jewish-American journalist who was kidnapped and killed while working for the Wall Street Journal in Pakistan. Pearl's wife wrote the memoir on which the film is based. Although the film has its issues, Jolie shines as Mariane Pearl. See this film on satellite TV's premium networks.
2. The Changeling. This Clint Eastwood film is a little heavy-handed at times, but Jolie is one of the bright spots throughout. Certain noir elements surround the disappearance and return of Jolie's son, who turns out to be not as advertised. Jolie received an Oscar nomination for her performance. 1. Girl, Interrupted. Jolie's major breakthrough role came in this James Mangold film, based on the memoirs of a patient in a mental institution. Alongside Wynona Ryder, Jolie shines as the rebellious patient who does everything but sit back and relax. Besides grabbing the attention of the world, she took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Check this film out on satellite TV's Independent Film Channel.
